The State of the Calc

Hello everyone,

I know it's been a long time since I've posted or updated anything, and there's a good reason for that. Lately, I've been extremely busy with work and school, and I haven't had a lot of free time, and when I do have time, I haven't had a lot of time to come up with good ideas on what new features I could set up here.

So that's why I'm posting this. What features would you guys really like to see here? Post your ideas in the comments and I'll be happy to discuss things with you about your idea, along the lines of how possible it would be. I'll of course give you credit if I do end up using your idea.

Updates I've made:

  • Added a page to see all the capes you've submitted in the UCP. Here you can see the votes and favorites, and delete capes you don't want anymore. Clicking on the names will take you directly to the cape.
  • Added a new "options" tab to the UCP that has some new options. Currently the only option that has any effect is the comment background color. This feature is going to be greatly expanded on.
  • The "Cached Stats" message at the bottom of a calc page now shows the exact time til next update.
  • Temporarily disabled the recent searches sidebar as it was causing load time issues. I have a plan to fix it, just need the time.
    This should now be fixed!
  • Expanded on the options tab to make the chosen signature colors have effect on the signatures. Example:

Hey Evan, is there an option to remove likes/dislikes from capes in the Designer section? It can become annoying if you miss-click one of the options.

Hey Evan, here's another idea. Can we set personal goals on our profile like "want to reach rank 5000", which would then show us how far we are off that goal in terms of XP?

Would having a "Quest Cape" milestone kind of thing be possible? Reason I mention this is because I actually took my maxing in steps and quest cape requirements, in terms of stats, was actually a pretty big milestone for me. Figured it would motivate people more to actually max/comp knowing they meet some of the requirements, like when they see they achieved a new milestone cape. :)

Also another thing I noticed was on the graph when you look your stats up has the "Hide DG" option. When you hide it, it doesn't show Divination on the graph anymore.

This is another much requested feature that I've put a lot of thought into how I would implement.

My current thought process is having an input screen where you can put the XP/Hr that you can obtain in each skill, and then the calculator would do the rest.

A little late to posting, but I would absolutely love something that would allow custom requirements to be added. Just so I can track my other requirements for the cape that aren't required in game.

Allow for the deletion of personally created Max/Comp cape designs. There might be a way that I don't know how, I'm new around here. Allow for the creation of private cape designs, that are not public. I just tried updating my current Max Cape design with a darker yellow, and it bugged out and updated the yellow I had just created, then deleted my other colors and replaced them with the default, but when I hit save it didn't have those default colors on it, and I feel bad I just spammed 3 capes that are all messed up into the designer xD

Currently only Admins can delete Cape Designs, and only ones that have been flagged. Allowing for deletion of your own capes is something I've always meant to do. I'm thinking about doing a page in the UCP that lists all your created capes, lists the number of times it's been liked, disliked, and Favorited, and has an option to delete it.

I've noticed there seems to be a few bugs with cape creation where the colors might be getting sent to the server incorrectly, and I'll take a look at it and see what I can do.

Private capes is an interesting idea. I'm not sure of the benefit to this, but it's something I can look into.

Whatever happened to the beta? I'd like to see another trimmed completionist cape progress wheel that's more accurate.

i.e. for Castle Wars you'd assume 20 minutes per game, so that specific requirement would take ~1400 hours, you'd weigh that against the other requirements and see how far you've progressed.

The beta is still there: maxcape.com/nr?beta=1 but after a lot of thought, I thought that the beta theme didn't have as much character or originality as the current theme. I might pick it back up later, but for now, I've stopped working on it.

True (trimmed) completionist progress is something I've put a ton of thought into. It's a tough thing to do because like you said, everything needs to be weighed against other requirements.

My idea I've had for a while now is to assign point values to each requirement, based on the time and effort required to do them. For example, Castle wars may be a 10, where getting 1,111+ points in a big chin game might be a 1.

The only issue with this is that some content is harder to some people then others. QBD, Fight Kiln, and Vorago are prime examples of these. I know people that really enjoy combat and can do these no problem, but I also know people who are terrified of bossing and have an extremely hard time doing these.

I'd actually like to see a timer as to when someone last looked you up. The message that you have to wait 2 hours kind of helps, but it doesn't exactly specify when the 2 hours started.

I also wanted to point something out, not a huge issue though. I used my friend "Everlong" as an example. If you look her up, and set the stats to say 90's cape and check progress, then click the 'hide complete' button, if you go to any other milestone cape to check the achievement, none of them load except the ones from the 90's cape.

I've had the request for the timer before, and completely forgot. It's a good one and I'll get that done. Just so that you know, in the UCP main tab, there's an option to override the cache once every 4 hours. This is so that you can update the calc on your own if, say, someone else searched for you earlier.

I see what you mean with the milestone thing. It should be showing all stats before changing milestones, but it looks like it's not. I'll make that change as well.
